Dad Entrepreneur Highlight | Cadushi Ink • Silvio Bufalini
June is the month that we celebrate Father’s Day so we chose to highlight one dad entrepreneur with our bold blog readers.
And who are we highlighting you ask? This month we are featuring Silvio Bufalini, tattoo artist and owner of Cadushi Ink.
About Silvio
He was born in Argentina, with Spanish roots from his mother side, and Italian roots on his father’s side. Silvio moved to Aruba about 28 years ago and has been calling this tiny island his home ever since. He loved Aruba so much he decided to launch and run his own business here. Silvio tells us that he actually studied chemistry but never pursued anything in this field. Silvio is a father of two. He tells us “my beautiful kids are Alejandro, who is 15, and Amelia who is 9”.
How he got into the tattoo business
Silvio worked several jobs before actually pursuing his true passion. While he was working these different jobs, he started to feel frustrated because he noticed he was doing things that did not fulfil him deep down. It was at that moment he realized, he needed to focus on what his true passion is and make something of it. Silvio’s passion was art, so he started painting art with oils and began to sell these. The business was doing ok but it wasn’t producing as much as Silvio liked so he decided to explore the tattoo industry, once he tried tattooing, a switch came on and so the magic started! It was then he realized he had found his true passion.

The idea behind Cadushi Ink
So how did Cadushi Ink come about? The business idea came up after Silvio read a book that inspired him a lot: Rich dad Poor dad by Robert Kiyosaki.
The name itself, Cadushi Ink, just came to me when I least expected it says Silvio. “I was looking for a catchy name for my business, something that was easy to read and pronounce and I really wanted it to include a Papiamento word in it”. One day, I was at this rumshop drinking a beer and I saw this old man with tattoos, he was a local man, back then tattoos were made with cactus needles and Chinese ink so then I thought Cadushi ink! and that’s basically how it happened, the name just came to me.

Since Silvio is a dad to two kids, we thought it would be interesting to know:
what is one business lesson you learned that you would pass on them?
Silvio says that he would make sure to teach them that money is out there for you to grab, there will always be opportunities and there is always a chance for a new beginning, it all depends on your motivation, drive and knowledge. “Do good, and you will receive good”.
On how to balance work and parent life
Since this blog post is about fatherhood and professional life, we asked Silvio to share his top 3 tips on how he balances work and parent life.
Silvio says:
1. Create and keep a schedule of your work and make sure to include your personal life in this schedule as well.
2. Delegate delegate! As a business owner, you tend to want to do everything yourself because you know how you like things to be done but at some point you have to realize that you can’t handle it all so you have to delegate some of your work to your employees, this way you’ll have more time to get some of your personal tasks done as well.
3. Acknowledge that your family comes first before everything. This last tip is a very important one but can be overlooked at times when we get caught up with work and life in general. At the end of the day, family is important, especially when you’re a parent, you want to make sure that you are there for your kids and that they know they can always come to you. A child should never feel that his/her parent is too busy to spend time with them.
