Spinola Beauty | The Story of an Organic Local Beauty Brand

Do we have any beauty product lovers following our Bold blogs? This one is going to be a favorite for you! Today we are collaborating with Mayra Spinola of Spinola Beauty, an organic & clean beauty brand founded right here in Aruba.

So how does one decide to go in the beauty industry? Here is Mayra’s inspirational story.
Mayra has over 15 years experience working in the beauty industry. She spend majority of her career working as a Retail and Education Executive for top beauty brands that are known internationally, and she’s had the privilege of working and training under some major global beauty brands as well.

The “aha” moment
Mayra considers herself a beauty junkie and a Caribbean “island girl” at heart, and she’s traveled to various cities to discover organic & clean beauty brands. It was at that moment where she realized that there was a need for this type of shopping experience in Aruba. The market in the beauty industry is moving at a fast pace and it’s transitioning into a more clean organic market.

“I always wanted to start my own beauty business” says Mayra. She spend the last three years doing a lot of research, searching for the best organic, vegan and cruelty-free skincare brand. She knew she wanted to do something different when it came to the “clean beauty” concept that is currently on the market.

So in 2020, Mayra decided it was time to make her dream a reality and so Spinola Beauty was born. “I was listening to an old interview of my late father who passed away last year. He was explaining how he started his retail business. He was going for his dream at a very young age and that was the push I needed to start. His words gave me the strength I needed.” says Mayra.

The main goal of Spinola Beauty is not only to offer the best natural organic skincare options for its costumers, but to also be transparent about which products will really help them, and that less is really better for your skin. Spinola Beauty’s mission is to give consumers the option to shop locally for the best organic and 100% natural skincare and makeup products. This concept is something that was not really available on the island.

“I love all things beauty and I believe that we are beautiful just the way we are. I am committed to helping each customer understand the importance of great skin care, both for men and women, by introducing clean beauty products to the local market. My passion and purpose is to create a world that is more sustainable and inclusive of all races and skin colors” says Mayra.

So how do you get customers to build that trust with you in such a competitive industry?
By being honest and transparent with your customers you will build so much trust and brand loyalty. Ideally, you want to offer a real product that will bring results and you want your customers to feel good in their own skin. For Mayra, it goes beyond selling a “solution”, she truly wants to help each customer find the most suitable product. She believes it is important to educate her customers about their skin and deliver the best products out there.

Things Mayra has learned as a startup founder
It’s crucial you focus on one core product. Most startups have a great vision and idea. She tends to hear that “it’s going to be awesome and we have a lot ideas that we want to launch with this startup” but it’s important to focus on one core product or business. Get that idea started, do the work, and launch it! Sure, it’s good to have a bigger picture of where you would want your business to be but it’s important to start with one core product.

We could not agree more with Mayra’s advice. You may have a lot of ideas going in all directions, but it’s important to stay focus on your niche.

Since Mayra is a pro in the beauty industry with years of knowledge and experience, we wanted to know her top 3 tips when it comes to ✨skincare✨

Tip #1:  less is better, don’t overdo it with your skincare routine.

Tip #2: please wear SPF everyday! Why is SPF so important? because it protects us from the sun’s harmful  ultraviolet rays: UVA and UVB. UVB rays are responsible for sunburn while UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin. These rays can lead to long-term effects like wrinkles, premature aging, and other skin damage

Tip #3: invest in a skincare routine. Your skin is your biggest organ after all so nurture is with high quality products along with good skincare tools.
