Did you know that fitness can help you become a better entrepreneur?
BoldBizz founder, Jaritza, says that getting into shape (by exercising) will also help you in business. How? “Getting in shape teaches you highly relevant and valuable lessons that will help you keep your head in the game and power through. The process to get fit is the closest experience you can simulate to building a successful business without actually first building a successful business.”
Sure, there is lots of information online on “how to become a better entrepreneur” but if you’re not in the right mind set, you will not remember any of this information.
Why does Jaritza think that being active will help you in business? In both areas, you have a goal- whether it’s to lose a few pounds or to make enough money every month from your business so can quit your full-time job. To achieve both of these goals, you need an action plan, ample resources (like time, discipline, focus, money for a gym membership and groceries, support from family and friends, and energy, lots of energy).
Here are three lessons that Jaritza learned so far through her fitness journey. These lessons can also be applied in business as well.
- Trust the process
When Jaritza first started her fitness journey at Cuts & Curves, she was ready to commit long-term in order to make satisfactory progress. After a few weeks, she asked her coach Hemradj Mulai why things aren’t happening fast enough for her compared to other people. Coach Mulai made her understand that the most important thing to keep in mind for staying in shape is to trust what you do. Whether you keep up with your daily fitness routine or if you fall and get back up. The process is the same in business; focus on doing the things right whether it’s talking to your customers, giving them what they want and consistently putting in the work. Do this right and you will get much further than “doing it sometimes but not really”, says Jaritza. - Be consistent
At first, Jaritza thought that by having the best coach in Aruba with the most advanced fitness program would get her to see results faster. Jaritza says ”I was a beginner who was desperate to prove that I wasn’t a beginner but it turns out that I got as great (if not better) results from doing beginner workout programs”. The problem is that many of us tend to get sucked into chasing perfection rather than doing what actually works. It’s a matter of consistency. Similarly, in business, you start with what works rather than creating the ideal product or service.#JaritzaBusinessTip: start with building a basic foundation and create a consistent relationship with your clients. - Learning how to use feedback
When Jaritza first started her fitness journey, she would panic when the scale didn’t budge for a week and she immediately jumped to the conclusion that she needed to change something right away. She was becoming impatient and ignored the other signs that showed her she was making process i.e her clothes fit better or looser, and her mood and energy levels improved. “That’s why I used the scale as my only method to monitor my progress. If the scale went down, that was great. If not, then I’d look at other indicators” says Correa. Feedback like this would help her decipher what was really going on before reacting emotionally. How does this relate to business? If your goal is to build a profitable business, remember that where you look for feedback can also deceive you.Nowadays, one can become a brand ambassador for a brand or product if they have a big following. These factors are important to a certain extent but the at the end of the day, the one metric that matters the most to help your business thrive is: the number of paying customers.
