7 Tips For Designing Your Own Home Office

Today we’ve partnered up with Ann van de Meent, who is the Creative Promotional Coordinator at Kooyman.  Ann shares her 7 tips on how you can create your own home office. Since a lot of us are working from home at the moment, we thought it would be ideal to share some inspiration. Read more below

1.  Finding your space
Your  home office space should inspire you and reflect your unique personality, so you shouldn’t be afraid to have fun with it. When it comes to creating your own home office, you have to start by finding a space in your home that will work for your vision. Once you have found the space, it’s time to get creative! You have to keep in mind three key things: design a space that is modern, functional and inspirational

2. Let there be light
Good lighting is essential for productivity. Use light colored curtains or blinds to block direct sunlight. This way you also get to control how much light you want in your office space throughout the day.

3. Optimize your space
Many home offices aren’t swimming in square footage so using your space efficiently is imperative. Hang floating shelves or use vertical bookshelves to optimize your home office space.

4. Hang a gallery wall
Decorate a blank wall by hanging images that speak to you or that are inspirational. Fill your office with vibrant art to energize your space and make you feel motivated.

5. Add Greenery!
A lovely plant is said to help keep you feeling calm and clean the air—plus it looks pretty too.

6. Give yourself a view
Position your desk where you can stare at something more interesting than a blank wall.

7. Add a Bar Cart
Bar carts aren’t just to display your alcoholic beverages. You can use a bar cart to create a coffee station as well because who doesn’t love a nice cup of coffee to help them jump into productivity mode? Simply add your bar cart, coffee mugs, coffee pods (or beans/ground coffee in a nice aesthetically-pleasing jar), coffee creamers or syrups and you have your own coffee corner at home.

A little bit about Ann
Ann almost pursued and education in finance but quickly realized that her passions and interests were in advertising. Ann pursued her degree at Mediacollege in Amsterdam and 3 years later, she obtained her degree in Graphic Management. Ann tells us that she always got very excited about receiving promotional flyers and brochures in the mail because she loves looking at the latest trends and deals in the home decor section.

In 2010, Ann landed a job as a Creative Promotional Coordinator in the Marketing department at Kooyman. Her tasks consist on improving the monthly brochure. They have grown from publishing these brochures from 3 islands to now 5. Because of this, Ann’s interest in interior design, home improvement and flipping furniture grew significantly.

Ann is constantly following the latest trends in interior design and also spends a lot of time watching HGTV, browsing on Pinterest, looking at lifestyle blogs and retailers’ website for inspiration.

Ann has recently started a small DIY project to give her apartment a much needed facelift. Even though this project is still a work in progress, Ann says that it’s been very rewarding so far. She wakes up every morning with a huge smile on her face when she looks at the results and it gives her a sense of accomplishment.
